Jonathan Woodhouse is a music graduate of Cardiff University and a professional countertenor and teacher based in Salisbury, Wiltshire. He is a Lay Vicar in Salisbury Cathedral Choir and also holds teaching positions at Bishop Wordsworth's Grammar School in Salisbury and at Stroud Preparatory School in Romsey, Hampshire. He has built up extensive experience as a singer and teacher having formerly been a member of the cathedrals choirs of Llandaff, Wells and Worcester and a teacher in Somerset, Worcestershire and Wiltshire.

Jonathan was born in Brighton. He started learning the flute from the age of eight and joined the choir of St Peter's Church, Brighton as a treble. He achieved a distinction for his grade eight flute examination at the age of fifteen and performed as a member of Brighton Youth Orchestra for five years. He became section leader of the orchestra in his final year and achieved an ATCL performance diploma in flute studies from Trinity Laban in London. In addition to his flute playing, he sang regularly in the choir of St Peter's Church for ten years as a treble and countertenor.

In 2008, Jonathan graduated with an upper second class honours music degree from Cardiff University. Alongside his university studies, he was awarded a Choral Scholarship in Llandaff Cathedral Choir and also sang regularly with Cardiff University Chamber Choir amongst other ensembles. He achieved commendable marks for his final year recital on the flute and vocal ensemble performance and carried out extensive research on William Byrd's 'Great Service' as part of his dissertation and growing interest in choral music.

Following graduation, Jonathan moved to Wells to take up positions as Alto Choral Scholar in Wells Cathedral Choir and as Graduate Music Assistant at Wells Cathedral School. As a member of the Cathedral Choir he sang on two of the choir's critically acclaimed recordings on the Hyperion record label as well as radio broadcasts and international tours. At Wells Cathedral School he was responsible for theory teaching, aural training, administration and practice supervision to the specialist musicians and choristers.

Following two years in Wells, Jonathan was appointed as Alto Lay Clerk in Worcester Cathedral Choir in 2011 and featured with the choir on several broadcasts, recordings and in eight Three Choirs Festivals. Whilst in Worcester, he taught at King's Hawford School, Bredon School and with Birmingham Music Service, achieving examination success from beginner to advanced levels. He enjoyed a variety of professional engagements as a consort singer with ensembles including Armonico Consort and Elgar Voices and received critical acclaim for solo performances of Bach St John Passion, Bach Magnificat, Handel Messiah and Pergolesi Stabat Mater.

Jonathan has been a Lay Vicar in Salisbury Cathedral Choir since April 2019 and features with the choir in daily services, concerts, recordings, broadcasts and the annual Southern Cathedrals Festival. Alongside his singing work, he is a member of Wiltshire Music Connect and teaches at Bishop Wordsworth's School and Stroud School in Romsey. He lives in Salisbury with his wife Sarah who is a teacher at Salisbury Cathedral School.
